Hollow-Core of PR

Hollow-Core of Puerto Rico began the production of hollow-core slabs on 1999 using the Elematic extrusion system. A hollow-core slab is a precast/prestressed concrete slab with continuous voids provided to reduce weight and, therefore, cost and, as a side benefit, to use to concealed electrical or mechanical runs. Primarily used as floor or roof deck systems, hollow-core slabs also have applications as wall panels, spandrel members, sound barriers, retaining walls and bridge deck units. The principle benefits of precast hollow-core slabs are their speed of installation and their design versatility making them suitable for use in all construction types and configurations.

extruder

The Elematic extrusion process is a system for the production of hollow-core slabs, which uses a very dry (zero, slump, water cement ratio 0.30) concrete mixture combined with extreme pressure and vibration.  The combination of shear compaction and zero slump concrete yields a slab of consistent high density and high compressive strength with excellent dimensional accuracy. The Elematic extrusion process is very versatile.  It is possible to customize the extruder to produce a slab cross-section to meet customer’s specific requirements (8” and 10” thick slab).

This production facility is designed as a two (2) bed indoor plant.  The production area is completely covered.  The production capacity of this plant is approximately one million (1,000,000) square feet annually using two (2) casting beds five hundred (500) feet in length and four (4) feet in width.  The hollow-core production equipment includes machinery to efficiently manufacture: 8” thick and 10” thick x 48” wide hollow–core slabs.
